You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I am asked to find all solutions, real or complex:
(3x+1)^2 = -12
:
We can do this by continuing to completing the square:
3x + 1 = +/-Sqrt(-12); find the sqrt of both sides
:
3x = -1 +/-Sqrt(-4*3)
:
3x = -1 + 2i*Sqrt(3)
x = %28-1+%2B+2i%2Asqrt%283%29%29%2F3
and
x = %28-1+-+2i%2Asqrt%283%29%29%2F3
