Question 926259: three more than the square root of THE SUM OF 3 consective odd numbers is 12. find the three numbers?
Answer by Edwin McCravy(20056) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First odd number = x
Second odd number = x+2
Third odd number = x+4

sqrt%28x%2B%28x%2B1%29%2B%28x%2B4%29%29%22%22=%22%2212

Square both sides. When you square a square root
you take away the square root radical:

x%2B%28x%2B2%29%2B%28x%2B4%29%22%22=%22%2212%5E2

x%2Bx%2B2%2Bx%2B4%22%22=%22%22144

3x%2B6%22%22=%22%22144

Add -5 to both sides

3x%29%22%22=%22%22138

x%22%22=%22%2246

First odd number = x = 46
Second odd number = x+2 = 46+2 = 48
Third odd number = x+4 = 46+4 = 50
