Question 925601: NEED HELP PLEASEEE!!!
tom and lisa are in two different sections of the same course. each section is quitye large and the scores on the final exams of each section follow a normal distribution. toms section had a mean of 45 and standard deviation of 8, while lisas section had a mean of 52 and standard deviation of 12. toms score was 56, while lisas was 66. in your opinion, who performed better on the final exam compared to their respective section? briefly explain your reasoning.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
toms section had a mean of 45 and standard deviation of 8, while lisas section had a mean of 52 and standard deviation of 12. toms score was 56, while lisas was 66. in your opinion, who performed better on the final exam compared to their respective section?
----
Tom's DATA:
z(56) = (56-45)/8 = 11/8
----
Lisa's DATA:
z(66) = (66-52)/12 = 14/12 = 7/6
------
Note:: The one with the larger z-value has the better score.
(11/8)-(7/6) = (66-56)/48 = 10/48
Since that difference is positive 11/8 is greater than 7/6.
Ans: Tom's score is better because it is further above the
mean score for his group.
