Question 922954: I need help on steps for solving a system of equations in substituting, elimination,and graphing method for problem.
X+3y=-4
X+y=0
Thank you in advance for your help,
I tried to work the problem below
Y=-x+0
X+3(-x+0)=-4
X+-3+0=-4
-2x+0=4
(2,2)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+y = 0 leads to y = -x

-------------------------------------------------------

x+3y = -4

x + 3(-x) = -4

x - 3x = -4

-2x = -4

x = -4/(-2)

x = 2

-------------------------------------------------------

y = -x

y = -2

-------------------------------------------------------

The solution as an ordered pair is (2, -2)

Notice how y is -2 and NOT +2.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me know if that helps or not. Thanks.
