X+y=-1
2x+y=3

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We have this system
x%2By=-1
2x%2By=3

Notice how we have the 'y' terms with the same coefficient of 1. We can subtract equation 2 from equation 1 to get:

x%2By=-1
2x%2By=3
-------------
-x%2B0y=-4

Now that we have -x%2B0y=-4. Solve for x

-x%2B0y=-4

-x%2B0=-4

-x=-4

x=4

=======================================================

Use this value of x to find y.

x%2By=-1

4%2By=-1 Plug in x+=+4

y=-1-4

y=-5

=======================================================

The solution is x+=+4 and y+=+-5

Together they form the ordered pair (4, -5) which is where the two lines cross.
