I really need your help in solving this problem. I appreciate your time and efforts. Have a terrific day :) Here is the question?
The force of gravity acting on an object varies directly as the mass of the object.
When you see "F varies directly as m" you write:

F+=+K%2Am, where K is the constant of proportionality
The force on mass of 5 kilograms is 49 newtons.
So you substitute 5 for m and 49 for F and solve for k

F+=+K%2Am
49+=+K%2A5
49%2F5=K
9.8=K

Now substitute 9.8 for K in

F+=+K%2Am
F+=+9.8%2Am
What is the force asking on mass of 12 kilograms?
Now substitute 12 for m and solve for F

F+=+9.8%2Am
F+=+9.8%2A12
F+=+117.6newtons
