Question 91993: Write the mathematical definition for a logarithm (i.e. for: logb N).
4. The definition of the log function (y = logb N, where b>0, b not 1) is based on the definition of the exponential function. Explain why you cannot take the logarithm of a negative number. (Why must N be greater than 0?)

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Write the mathematical definition for a logarithm (i.e. for: logb N).
---------
log is another word for "exponent"
logb N = the exponent or power of b that gives the number N.

4. The definition of the log function (y = logb N, where b>0, b not 1) is based on the definition of the exponential function.
Explain why you cannot take the logarithm of a negative number. (Why must N be greater than 0?)
If b>0 there is no exponent (power) of b that would result in a negative result.
