Question 919776: The question to this section of homework is: "graph each equation and determine the domain and range. Determine whether the equation is a function,is one-to-one, onto, both, or neither. Then state whether it is discrete or continuous"
All I really need help with is determining the domain and range of y=-x^2
Also, how do I find out if an algebraic problem is discrete or continuous? I understand with word problems, obviously, I'm just a bit confused on numeric examples like the one above.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Domain of a function y = f(x) is the set of possible x-values such that y is defined. In this case the domain is the set of all real numbers. The range is the set of all possible values for y (the image). Since -x^2 must be non-positive for real x, the range is (-infinity, 0]. (the ] indicating that 0 is included)
y = -x^2 is a continuous function everywhere.
