You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A car leaves St. Paul, Minnesota at 4 pm. A bus leaves the same place at 5 pm and travels in the same direction as the car. the car is 12 mph faster than the bus. at 8 pm the vehicles are 100 mi apart. What is the speed of each vehicle?

A car leaves St. Paul, Minnesota at 4 pm.
A bus leaves the same place at 5 pm and travels in the same direction as the car. speed =x mph
the car is 12 mph faster than the bus. (x+12) mph
d= rt
Car time = 4 hours
distance traveled = 4(x+12)
Bus time = 3 hours
Bus distance = 3x
Difference between them = 100 miles

4(x+12)-3x=100
4x+48-3x=100
x=52
Bus speed = 52 mph
car speed = 52 +12 = 64 mph
CHECK
64*4 -52*3=100

at 8 pm the vehicles are 100 mi apart. What is the speed of each vehicle?
