Question 914523: When a fraction is reduced to it's lowest term,it is equal to 3/4.the numerator of the fraction when double would be 34 greater than the denominator.find the fraction Answer by LinnW(1048) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Set n = the numerator
d = the denominator
Do cross products
add -4d to each side
d = -68
Since n = d + 17, n = -68 + 17
n = -51
Checking our answer. See if n/d reduces to 3/4
n/d = -51/-68 = 3/4 , so this checks out.
Now see if 2n = 2d + 34
2(-51) = 2(-68) + 34
-102 = -136 + 34
-102 = -102
So we can say the numerator is -51 and the denominator is -68
