Question 91296: I need help with this Word Problem.
Ed and Dave are going to divide a cash prize of $14,000 in a ratio of 2 to 5. How much will Dave receive?
How do you know who gets what amount? Here is how I worked it but confused on who gets what.
x/14000-x=2/5
5x=2(14000-x)
5x=28000-2x
5x+2x=28000-2x+2x
7x=28000
7x/x=28000/7
x=4000
14000-x
14000-4000=10000

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Ed and Dave are going to divide a cash prize of $14,000 in a ratio of 2 to 5. How much will Dave receive?
--------------
2 to 5 is the same as 2x to 5x
Ed has 2x; Dave has 5x
EQUATION:
2x+5x = 14000
7x = 14000
x=2000
Ed has 2x= $4000
Dave has 5x= $10000
