Answer:

2(x-3) + 8(4-x) = 38
At first remove the parenthesis as follows....
2*x - 2*3 + 8*4 - 8*x = 38

==> 2x - 6 + 32 - 8x = 38

Collect like terms......


==> 2x - 8x - 6 + 32 = 38


==> -6x + 26 = 38


subtract 26 from both sides.........

==> -6x + 26 - 26 = 38 - 26

==> -6x = 12

Divide by -6 on both sides....


==> +-6x%2F-6+=+12%2F-6+

==> x = -2


So solution is x = -2
