You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A tank has the a base of 2 ft by 6 ft.
If a rectangular solid of 1 ft by 1 ft by 2 ft is totally immersed in water
how many inches will the water rise?
:
let h = height of the water in ft
then
2 * 6 * h = 12h cu/ft is the volume of the water
:
1 * 1 * 2 = 2 cu/ft is volume of the solid
Find the height of the water when the volume is 2 cu/ft
12h = 2
h = 12/2
h = 1/6 cu/ft which is 1%2F6*12 = 2 inches
