Question:

simplify (a^2-9)+(a-3)
i divided them and i came up with a+3 but since it looks like an addition problem im not sure how to work it out.

Answer:
Make sure that your question is an addition propblem.
simplify (a^2-9)+(a-3)
Then the answer is..
%28a%5E2-9%29%2B%28a-3%29+=++a%5E2+-+9+%2B+a+-+3+

==> +a%5E2+%2B+a+-+9+-+3+

==> +a%5E2+%2B+a+-+12+, which is the required answer.

If your question is a division problem like this,

%28a%5E2-9%29%2F%28a-3%29, then the answer is...

%28a%5E2-9%29%2F%28a-3%29 = +%28%28a%2B3%29%28a-3%29%29%2F%28a-3%29+

==> (a+3)

Hope you found the explanation useful.
