Change the mixed numbers into fractions first, then add.
27%2F8 = 23%2F8
35%2F8=29%2F8
23%2F8+29%2F8=52%2F8
52%2F8=64%2F8 which reduces to 61%2F2

You can also do this by adding the whole numbers, and then adding the fractions.
2+3 = 5
7%2F8+5%2F8=12%2F8 which is 14%2F8%7D%7D+or+1%7B%7B%7B1%2F2
5 + 11%2F2 = 61%2F2
