You can put this solution on YOUR website!
percents can be confusing.

let a equal the population of city A.
let b equal to population of city B.

if the population of city A is 15% less than the population of city B, then you get a = b - .15 * b.

factor out the b and you get a = b * (1-.15) which becomes a = .85*b

this means that the population of city A is equal to 85% of the population of city B.

you want to convert 47.85 american dollars to canadian dollars.

based on the current exchange rate, an american dollar is equal to 1.1243 * a canadian dollar.

those numbers are not exact but rounded to the nearest 4 decimal places.

i have no idea where you got .9950 from.

that's not related to the canadian dollar based on what i see as the current exchange rate between the two countries.

if you want to convert american dollars to canadian dollars, go with what i gave you.

the ratio that you are showing will only serve to confuse you since it's got two strikes against it.

first strike is it's the wrong number.

second strike is it's going in the wrong direction.

it appears to be the factor to convert from foreign dollar to american dollar when what you want is to convert american dollar to foreign dollar.

let me spend a little time to let you know the difference.

the ratio you are showing is foreign per american = .9950

this means that foreign divided by american = .9950

let f = foreign and let a = american and the eqaution is f/a = .9950

solve for a to get a = f/.9950 which means that a = f * 1/.9950 which means that a = 1.005 * f

the end result is that foreign per american dollar is .9950 and american per foreign dollar is 1.005.

in other words, the ratio you would have been using is going in the wrong direction and giving you the ratio of foreign to american dollar when what you wanted was the ratio of american to foreign dollar.

if you had 1 foreign dollar, it would be equal to .9950 * an american dollar.

ifyou had 1 american dollar, it would be equal to 1.j005 * a foreign dollar.

either case, the ratio is wrong plus it's going in the wrong dir3ection, so use the ratio i gave you and you should be ok.
