You can put this solution on YOUR website! Question:
what is algebra
Answer:
Mathematics is mainly classified into three branches. They are,
1. Arithmatic
2. Geometry
3. Algebra.
Algebra is the branch of mathematics, which deals with algebraic expressions.
An algebraic expression is an expression which includes numbers, variables and arithmatical operations.
Here variables refers to alphabets like a,b,c,d,............ and also we use symbols alpha, beta, gamma, phi, etc
When we use a mathematical statement to describe a relationship, we often use letters to represent the quantity that varies, since it is not a fixed amount. These letters and symbols are referred to as variables
Algebraic Terms.
In general The basic unit of an algebraic expression is a term,
a term is either a number or a product of a number and one or more variables.
For example, -7ax
The numerical part of the term, or the number factor of the term, is what we refer to as the numerical coefficient.
In the above example, the numerical coefficient is -7 and the variable part is ax.
Examples for algebraic expressions:
2
x
3 + 7
2y + 5
4x -6y+9
z + 3k - z
Hope you found the explanation useful.
