Question 907831: Hello,
I am trying to figure out what the odds were for a drawing at my school. There were 36 students in the drawing for 18 spots. Of that, 5 girls who do extra volunteering for the school were all selected. I do not believe the teachers really used a blind lottery. How do I calculate the odds that these 5 girls would be selected in the group of 18? I can't even figure out where to start. Thank you! Answer by ewatrrr(24785) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Using Combination (choosing x out of n)
P = = 206253075/9075135300 ~ .02 Or 2% chance of this happening
a bit of a long shot...not to say it could not happen.
