You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5 * .023 * 450,000 = 51750
5 * .012 * 450,000 = 27000

NCR gained 51,750 employees and lost 27,000 employees for a net gain of 51,750 - 27,000 = 24,750 employees.

add 450,000 to 24,750 and you get 474,750 employees.

The wording is very important here
" 2.3% of this number " and
" 1.2% of this number "
tells me what to do
------------------------
+%28+.023+-+.012+%29%2A450000+
is the net gain each year
+5%2A%28+.023+-+.012+%29%2A450000+
is the net gain for 5 years
---------------------------
+5%2A%28+.011+%29%2A450000+
+.055%2A450000+
+24750+ is the net gain
after 5 years, so the total
number of personnel in 5 years is:
+450000+%2B+24750+=+474750+
