Question 90628: Please help me to solve this problem.
1,158 grams of gold is submerged into the graduated cylinder filled with 140 mL of water. The water level rises to 200 mL. What is the density of the gold?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First you must find the total displacement of the water in the graduated cylinder once the gold has been placed into it.
The initial water volume was 140 ml, and after the gold was placed into the cylinder it became 200 ml.
Therefore, the volume displacement (or volume of the gold) is:
V=200ml-140ml
200ml-140ml=60ml

Now use the formula,
density=mass%2Fvolume to determine the gold's density
so, density=1158g%2F60ml
which equals 1158g%2F60ml=19.3g%2Fml
