Question 905690: Colin sold student tickets and guest tickets to a school play. He sold a total of 154 tickets in all. He sold 8 more student tickets than guest tickets. How many of each type of ticket did he sell? Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! S + G = 154 (He sold a total of 154 tickets in all.)
S = G + 8 (He sold 8 more student tickets than guest tickets.)
Substitute the known value of S from the second equation into the first.
S + G = 154
(G+8) + G = 154
2G + 8 = 154
Subtract 8 from each side
2G = 146
Divide each side by 2
G = 73
If he sold 73 guest tickets, then he sold 8 more than that in student tickets, or 81.
73 + 81 = 154
