Question 904443: Two cars are placed in different cities A and B. The car of A starts its journey in 7 o-clock in the morning, the second car from B starts in 7:20 a.m. The first one arrives at B for 3 hr and 36 min and the second car for 2 hr and 42 min. When do they meet? Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! ): Two cars are placed in different cities A and B.
The car of A starts its journey in 7 o-clock in the morning, the second car from B starts in 7:20 a.m.
The first one arrives at B for 3 hr and 36 min and the second car for 2 hr and 42 min.
When do they meet?
:
convert 3 hr 36 min to 3.6 hrs
convert 2 hr 42 min to 2.7 hrs
We can choose a convenient value for the distance from A to B
then
240/3.6 = A's speed
and
240/2.7 = B's speed
:
Construct an equation for each; A's travel time is 1/3 hr greater than B's
Time in hrs on x axis, distance on the y axis
A:
y = (x + )
B:
y = x + 240
Plot these two equations
intersection occurs at 1.4 hrs; which is 1 + .4(60) = 1 hr 24 min
:
Add 1:24 to B's staring time
7:20
1:44
-----
8:44 AM they meet
