You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We know the total amount of money invested. $92000
x+y=92000,
We know that the total interest for the year for the two accounts is $3400
0.04*x+0.03*y=3400
x=92000-y
We substitute for x
0.04*(92000-y)+0.03*y=3400
We multiply out
3680-0.04y+0.03*y=3400
We combine like terms.
-0.01*y=-280
Isolate y
y=28000 at 3%
x=92000-y
Calculate x
x=64000 at 4%
We check
0.04*64000+0.03*28000=3400
2560+840=3400
3400=3400
Since this statement is TRUE and neither amount is negative then all is well
