Question 901468: Dave planted two trees in his yard. one tree is 50 inches tall and grows at a rate of 2 inches per month. The other tree is 59 inches tall and grows at a rate of 1 inch per month. How many months will it take until both trees are the same height?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +n+ = number of months that
they both grow
Let +h+ = the height of the trees
----------------
Equation for 1st tree:
+h+=+2n+%2B+50+
Equation for 2nd tree:
+h+=+1%2An+%2B+59+
-------------------
Set the heights equal to eachother
+2n+%2B+50+=+n+%2B+59+
+n+=+9+
they will be the same height in 9 months
check:
+h+=+2%2A9+%2B+50+
+h+=+68+ inches
and
+h+=+1%2A9+%2B+59+
+h+=+68+ inches
OK
