You can put this solution on YOUR website! You have a 3 inch by 5 inch photo that you want to enlarge,mat, and frame. You want the width of the mat to be 2 inches on all sides. You want the perimeter of the framed photo to be 44 inches. By what percent should you enlarge the photo?
photo 3 x 5
let increase in width and length be x
enlarged photo
(3+2x) & (5+2x)
width of mat = 2
length & width of frame =
(3+2x)+4 & (5+2x)+4
7+2x, 9+2x
Perimeter = 2(l+w)
2(7+2x+9+2x)=44
16+4x= 44/2
16+4x=22
4x=22-16
4x=6
x=1.5 inch
The enlarged photo will have to be
width 3+3=6
length = 5+3=8
Area of enlarged photo = 40
Area of original = 3*5 =15
you can calculate the % increase
