You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Driving down a mountain, Tom finds that he has descended 1800 ft
in elevation by the time he is 3.25 mi horizontally away from the top of the
mountain. Find the slope of his descent to the nearest hundredth.
:
One of the definitions of slope is "Rise over Run"
:
Since he is driving down the mountain is would be considered a negative rise
:
The rise = -1800 ft and the run (horizontal) = 3.25 mi
:
We want them to be in the same units, change 3.25 mi to ft
5280 * 3.25 = 17160 ft
:
Slope = -1800%2F17160 = -.104895 ~ -.10 to the nearest hundredth
