I graphed it and found that x = 2 is a root::

I graphed that cubic and found that x = 4 is a root:
4)......2.....-13...17.....12
........2.....-5... -3...|.. 0
----
Use the quadratic formula on that quadratic::
x = [5 +- sqrt(25 - 4*2*-3)]/4
x = [5 +- sqrt(49)]/4
x = 3 or x = -1/2
