OK sweetie........because perimeter is the sum of numbers on all 4 sides, I would first divide 4 into 52. That would give me 13, but I need to divide that by 2 because the width is the same on both sides ofcourse. That would give me 5.6 which I would round to 6. I then multiplied 6 by 3 and got 18. The perimeter would = to 48 which is below 52.

lol the other answer was so bad, it must have been a joke. At least i hope it was a joke :-O

Anyway...
Let the width = x
so length = x+3

Perimeter = x + x + x+3 + x+3 = 52 so

4x + 6 = 52
4x = 52-6
4x = 46
x = 11.5

so width = 11.5 inches
and length must be 14.5 inches

check... 14.5 + 14.5 + 11.5 + 11.5 --> 52 inches

Now, the question says the perimeter is less than 52, so width must be less than 11.5 and the length must be less than 14.5.
