You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let L = Laura's $
Let A = Anna's $
:
Write an equation for each statement
:
one third of Laura's money is the same as five sixth of Anna's money. L = A
Cross multiply
6L = 3(5A)
6L = 15A
:
If Laura has $36 more than Anna,
L = A+36
Use substitution here
6(A+36) = 15A
6A + 216 = 15A
216 -= 15A - 6A
216 = 9A
A = 216/9
A = $24 for Anna
then
24 + 36 = $60 for Laura
