You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To solve this you can draw 20 little circles. Then start with pennies and then add nickels. You should come out with 13 pennies and 5 nickels

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5n+p=48
n+p=20
subtract
4n=28
divide
n=7
n+p=20
7+p=20
p=13
7*5+13=48
The new tutor's answer 5*5+13=38 not $.48 and has only 18 not 20 required coins
BTW There is no reason to make things harder by using decimals.
We are dealing with cents which can be written $.01 or 1
Why make things harder?

if you have 20 coins only nickels and pennies that equal up to 48 cents how many of each are there ?

Let number of nickels be N
Then number of pennies = 20 - N
Value equation: .05N + .01(20 - N) = .48
.05N + .2 - .01N = .48
.05N - .01N = .48 - .2
.04N = .28
N, or number of nickels = .28%2F.04, or highlight_green%287%29
You should be able to find the number of pennies.

You can do the check!!
