You can put this solution on YOUR website! Fred begins walking toward John's house at 3 miles per hour. John leaves his house at the same time and walks toward Fred's house on the same path at a rate of 2 miles per hour.
 How long will it be before they meet if the distance between the houses is 4 miles.
 :
 let t = the walking time of the two boys (in hrs)
 :
 When they meet, they will have traveled a total of 4 mi
 Write a distance equation dist = speed * time
 Fred's dist + John's dist = 4 mi
 3t + 2t = 4
 5t = 4
 t = 4/5 hr or .8(60) =  48 min
