Question 895641: Fred begins walking toward John's house at 3 miles per hour. John leaves his house at the same time and walks toward Fred's house on the same path at a rate of 2 miles per hour. How long will it be before they meet if the distance between the house is 4 miles.
Tried to set up a table with rate, distance, speed, and time. Not sure how to set up equation and solve.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Fred begins walking toward John's house at 3 miles per hour.
John leaves his house at the same time and walks toward Fred's house on the same path at a rate of 2 miles per hour.
How long will it be before they meet if the distance between the houses is 4 miles.
:
let t = the walking time of the two boys (in hrs)
:
When they meet, they will have traveled a total of 4 mi
Write a distance equation dist = speed * time
Fred's dist + John's dist = 4 mi
3t + 2t = 4
5t = 4
t = 4/5 hr or .8(60) = 48 min
