If 3%2F5 of the students are boys, then 2%2F5 or 40% of the students are girls.
474 = .4 x
Divide each side by .4 (the 40% of girls)
474/.4 = x
474/.4 = 1185 students in total
474 of these are girls. 1185-474 = 711 boys
711 boys / 1185 total students = 0.6 or 60%
