You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two cars leave towns 600 kilometers apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One car's rate is 18 kilometers per hour less than the other's. If they meet in 4 hours, what is the rate of the slower car?
Let rate of speed of slower car be S
Then rate of speed of faster car = S + 18
Since when they meet, the sum of their individual distances covered will be 600 km, then we can say that:
4(S) + 4(S + 18) = 600
4S + 4S + 72 = 600
8S = 600 - 72
8S = 528
S, or speed of slower car = , or km/h
You can do the check!!
