Question 894556: Please help me solve this. It seems to be unsolvable.
Which of the following has a probability closest to 0.5?
A. The sun will rise tomorrow
B. It will rain tomorrow
C. You will see a dog with only three legs when you leave the room
D. A fair dice will come up with a score of 6 four times in a row
E. There will be a plane crash somewhere in the world within the next five minutes
I think it might be B, but I'm not sure. All of the answer choices, except for D seem subjective and circumstantial. It seems like a silly question but it's on almost all AP Statistics Summer assignments around the country, so there must be an answer.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can reason your way through each choice, but this might not be using the formal understanding which you are studying.
A. Certainly too far from 0.5.

B. Need further information if this to be answerable. Makes no sense here.

C. Very unlikely for most people so far below 0.5.

D, You can compute this! What is the probability? Is it near 0.5 or not?

E. This depends on finding known data about such events, so you need to find published statistics on this.

Maybe the question itself is not good. I feel like you do. Do you know how to evaluate choice D ?
