Use the Pythagorean theorem,
H%5E2=9%5E2%2B12%5E2
H%5E2=81%2B144
Add it up and take the square root.

This is when knowing about right triangles pays off.
You should know that 3,4,5 and 5,12,13 are integer sides of a right triangle.
All multiples are also right triangles.
9=3*3
12=3*4
so the hypotenuse would be 3*5=15
