You can put this solution on YOUR website!
During rush hour, Bill can drive 15 miles using the side roads in the same time that it takes to travel 10 miles on the freeway. If Bills rate on the side roads is 8 miles hour faster than his rate on the freeway, find his rate in the side roads.
----------------
Side roads DATA:
distance = 15 miles ; rate = x+8 mph ; time = d/r = 15/(x+8)
----------------
Freeway DATA:
distance = 10 miles ; rate = x mph ; time = d/r = 10/x
-----------------
EQUATION:
time = time
15/(x+8) = 10/x
15x = 10x+80
5x = 80
x = 16 mph (rate on freeway)
x+8 = 24 mph (rate on side roads)
