let x equal the number of apples that you have.
x + 1.5 = 1.5 * x
subtract x from both sides of the equation to get;
1.5 = .5 * x
divide both sides of the equation by .5 to get:
1.5 / .5 = x
solve for x to get x = 3
3 + 1/5 = 4.5
1.5 * 3 = 4.5
