Question 892090: Please help me with this word inequality problem, Algebra 1, Grade 8-
(Write an inequality and solve the problem algebraically):
The length of a rectangle is 5 times it's width. The perimeter of the rectangle is at most 104 meters. Find the greatest possible dimensions of this rectangle.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
w for width
L for length

L=5w, and 2w%2B2L%3C=104.

The perimeter equation is simplifiable to w%2BL%3C=52.
Substitution for L gives w%2B5w%3C=52.

6w%3C=52
w%3C=52%2F6
highlight%28w%3C=26%2F3%29. Note, the inclusive inequality is used because,
"at most", allows for the perimeter to be 104 meters.

You can take the rule given for L and say w=L/5, and now try this substituted in the
perimeter inequality:
2%28L%2F5%29%2B2L%3C=104 or L%2F5%2BL%3C=52 and solve for L.
%286%2F5%29L%3C=52
L%3C=52%285%2F6%29
L%3C=26%2A5%2F3
highlight%28L%3C=130%2F3%29

Convert to mixed numbers if you want.
