y age of son

NOW:
x=y%2B27

LATER:
x%2B10=2%2A%28y%2B10%29.
BOTH of them are each 10 years older.

Simplify the "later" equation; and then substitute for x and solve first for the value of y.

x-2y=20-10
x-2y=10
