You can put this solution on YOUR website! Wow! Maria must be shopping in Las Vegas or the South of France. $12,500 on three articles of clothing?
.
S = 2P [the sweater was twice the price of the pants]
H = .75P [The pair of shoes was 3/4 of the cost of the pair of pants]
S + H + P = 12,500
Substitute the known values of S and H from the top equations into the bottom equation.
S + H + P = 12,500
(2P) + (.75P) + P = 12,500
Add
3.75P = 12,500
Divide each side by 3.75
P = 3333.33
If the pants cost $3,333.33, then the sweater costs twice that, or $6666.67 (rounding up). The shoes were the cost of the pants, or .75 * 3333.33, or $2,500.
.
Shoes = $2500
Pants = $3333.33
Sweater = $6666.67
Add them together: 2500+3333.33+6666.67 = $12,500.00
.
I think that money could have been better spent!
