Question 890675: Someone please assist me with these problems.I did the problem but I'm unsure of my answers.
Hire an inspector to improve quality?
A quality inspector is hired at 25$ per hour which includes benefits and everything.
Now the defective rate (DR) is .06 and the inspector can inspect one widget every 30 seconds (figure out how many he can inspect in an hour since he gets paid by the hour). For every mistake while making a widget, it costs the firm $12.50.
1. So, you'll want to find defective rate times how many widgets the the inspector can inspect in an hour times the cost of fixing the widget and then compare it against what you're going to pay the inspector. Show the math to determine what costs less the inspector's salary every hour or the just fixing the defects.
2. What's the per unit inspection cost? Think of what the inspector gets paid every hour divided by the number s/he inspects.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
---
In one hour the 60 min/(1/2)min = 120 widgets are inspected.
# of defective found in one hour = 120*0.06 = 7.2
Cost of fixing the 7.2 defectives: 7.2*12.5 = $90
Ans: Inspector's cost for an hour ($25) is less than $90
-------------------------
2. What's the per unit inspection cost? Think of what the inspector gets paid every hour divided by the number s/he inspects.
Ans: $90/120 = $0.75
