Question 890086: The problem states: Aline slanting downward has slope c and passes through the points (1,8) and (c,2). The slope of the line is c. Find value for c. I have tried to figure out the slope but missing one of the points makes it hard. The textbook only gives examples to find missing point if you know what the slope is and the problem does not list that either. Please help.
Thank you,

There is no real number such that a line with slope contains the points and
The slope of a line containing the points and is given by .
Substituting what you were given, you get:
Then
giving us a quadratic in . A little arithmetic shows that the discriminant is negative, hence there are no real values of that satisfy the parameters of the problem.
