Question 889983: A class of nursing students will perform an experiment wherein they will need a solution of 160 cubic centimetres that is 12% hydrochloric acid. If the laboratory storeroom has only solutions containing 20% and 10% hydrochloric acid, how much of each available solution should be mixed to obtain the desired solution containing 12% hydrochloric acid.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A class of nursing students will perform an experiment wherein they will need a solution of 160 cubic centimetres that is 12% hydrochloric acid. If the laboratory storeroom has only solutions containing 20% and 10% hydrochloric acid, how much of each available solution should be mixed to obtain the desired solution containing 12% hydrochloric acid.
-----
Equation:
acid + acid = acid
----------------------
0.20x + 0.10(160-x) = 0.12*160
-------
20x + 10*160 - 10x = 12*160
-------
10x = 2*160
x = 32 cc (amt. of 20% solution needed)
160-x = 128 cc (amt. of 10% solution needed
----------------------
