Question 889972: I need help with this word problem! The question is The area of a triangle is 30 in squared. the base of the triangle is 2 in. more than twice the heigh of the triangle. Find the measures of the base and the height.

I know that area= b x h divided by two but i just don't understand how to solve this one

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Write down what you know.
%281%2F2%29bh=30
bh=60
.
.
b=2%2B2h
Substitute into the area equation.
%282%2B2h%29h=60
2h%2B2h%5E2=60
2h%5E2%2B2h-60=0
h%5E2%2Bh-30=0
You can factor this quadratic,
%28h%2B6%29%28h-5%29=0
Two solutions, however one is negative which makes no sense in this problem.
h-5=0
highlight%28h=5%29
Then,
b=2%2B2%285%29
b=2%2B10
highlight%28b=12%29
