Question 889052: Dear Tutor,
I am having difficulty solving this quadratic word equation. The word problem is as follows : The amount of material required to cover a ball is directly proportional to the square of its diameter. A ball with a diameter of 4 cm needs 256 cm^2 of material to cover it. How much material is need to cover a ball with a diameter of 12 cm. If you can answer me ASAP, that would me perfect. I appreciate your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
k*d^2=m
m=256
d=4
solve for k
k*12^2=M
