Question 888482: Mary and Carol are doing a month project. Carol can do work twice as fast as Mary. If they work together they can finish the project in 4 hours. hOW WOULD YOU Reprsent the amount of work that mary can finish in 1 hour? how about the amount of work that carol finish in 1 hour? Answer by LinnW(1048) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Set C = Carol's rate in projects per hour
M = Mary's rate is projects per hour
4*( combined rates for Carol and Mary ) = 1 project completion
4(C+M) = 1
Since Carol's rate is 2 times Mary's rate we can rewrite the above where C = 2M
divide each side by 12
M = 1/12
Mary's rate is 1/12 project per hour
She can complete 1/12 of the project in one hour.
