Question 888167: ratio between girls and boys in 40 students 2:3 five new student added how many boys so ratio is 4:5 Found 2 solutions by JulietG, josmiceli:Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If you have 40 and you add 5, you now have 45 students. 4:5 is 9. 45/9 = 5. Your new ratio is 4:5 or 20 girls:25 boys.
Your previous ratio was 2:3 (5 total). 40/5 = 8
Previously there were 8*2 girls: 8*3 boys, or 16:24.
To get from the old ratio to the new one you added 4 girls and one boy.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Girls / boys = 2/3
This means 2 out of every 5 students is a girl, and
3 out of every 5 students is a boy students are boys
--------------------------------------
Now there are students
girls / boys = 4/5
5 out of every 9 students are boys students are now boys ( answer )
That means that 1 of the 5 new students was a boy

check:
4 of the 5 new students was a girl
There were
-------------------
The new ratio is 4/5
