It should be 8 cents.
You can divide a piece of candy in half to get
7 1/2 pieces, but you can't cut a penny in half
to get 1/2 cent ( it's illegal, actually )

There are ways around it, like you could pay
7 cents plus a 1/2 cent postage stamp, but
is it worth the extra trouble?

Actually it's not illegal to cut a penny in half, but you couldn't buy candy with it. J.
