Question 887844: I need help with the following word problem: An investment is worth $2736 in 1995. By 2000 it has grown to $5606. Let y be the value of the investment in the year x, where x=0 represents 1995. Write a linear equation that models the value of the investment in the year x. I have used the formula m=y two-y one over x two - x one and got 1 87/200. I then tried to plug in y=mx+b. My teacher has given the answer as y=574x+2736 but I cannot seem to come to that conclusion. Could you please show me how she arrived at that answer?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! In 5 years the investment has grown to $5606 from $2736. We need to calculate how much the investment has grown in 5 years, 5606 - 2736 = 2870. Next we calculate growth in one year, 2870/5 = 574. Now we can write the equation for y.
y = 574x +2736, where x is number of years since 1995, y is value of investment in year x
